Spray Foam
To insulate the meat plant, we used spray foam insulation. Not only will this provide excellent insulation to keep the plant cool in the intense heat of the Sonoran Desert, but it will provide a barrier to dust, insects and moisture. A small company from Hermosillo, Sonora installed the insulation in three days with a crew of two men. They did a tremendous job, and we are also very thankful that they gave us a great price because of our purpose.
Here is the spray gun operator Roberto. He had to change his glasses every five minutes so he could see. The lens were soaked in solvent, so at all times there were different lens in various stages of the cleaning process.
Here is a video showing the installation. You can see the foam expand within three seconds of application.
Here is a view through the door into the product cooler after the insulation was installed. We used from one to four inches thickness of insulation depending on the location and depending on if we had adobe walls at that location. Adobe walls 21 inches thick provide excellent insulation already, so we didn’t need to add much more.
Here is the packaging room.
